Hand Caning

The 6-step hand-caned seat is the most popular pattern.  It takes approximately 15 to 18 hours to complete an average size seat.  The rockers, pictured below, took well over 30 hours to complete.

A beautiful primitive rocker.
It's unusual for this type of
rocker to have a caned seat.
These types of rockers normally
have a solid wood seat.

Popular 6-step pattern.
It consists of two front to back steps,
two side to side steps, two diagonals and a binder.

A very lovely rocker with a
hand caned round seat.
Beautiful!

Fancy hand caned patterns can take up to 40 hours to complete depending on the size of chair and type of pattern.

A very nice rocker.
The back of the rocker has a slight curve
to it, making it much more difficult
and time-consuming to weave.

A rocker done in the traditional 6-step pattern.

A lovely trio.  Set of two chairs and one rocker.
